Our summer camp is hosted in the historic Round Lake Auditorium, in Round Lake, NY. This intensive four-week program teaches children the basics of theatre through daily rehearsals, theatre games, master classes, and a thrilling performance weekend for the entire community!
The main event of our summer is putting on two productions. It's a guiding principle of ours to feature as many of our campers as possible and so we double cast each show, with each cast getting three performances during our final weekend.
Our staff is the highlight of our program - they have all been Carpe campers before and are dedicated to creating unforgettable summers just as they experienced throughout their childhood. With supervision from our leadership, they learn to fulfill all the responsibilities of each show's production team.
At Orientation, we'll talk through the many opportunities available to each camper, beyond the mainstage shows. Below you'll see highlights from our legendary Wacky Wednesdays & Funky Fridays, Carpe PM Benefit Concert, and Cabaret Night (our favorite night of the year)!

The best thing about Carpe? Everybody gets in. Our auditions are all about taking the group as a whole, seeing everybody's strengths, and getting the best cast together accordingly!
We offer two audition options: one for those seeking a featured role and one for those who want to be in the ensemble.
For those who would like a role:
We will let you know ahead of time what songs from the shows you can choose to sing, and will provide the music so you can practice. Upon entering the auditorium, you will be asked to sign in. Once we call your name, you will make your way to the stage and sing the song. After you sing, we may ask you to read a few scenes with the other actors that are auditioning. You might even have to learn some choreography, so be ready to dance!
For those who would like to be in the ensemble:
On audition days, we will host an Ensemble Meeting where you can meet our counselors and hear more about the program and our plans for the summer. You will not audition (sing or read lines); instead we will play a couple of theater games and do a little movement together so we can get to know one another better!
Every Wednesday and Friday of Camp we host a theme day and invite the campers to dress up according to the theme! Creativity runs wild and this has become Camp's longest running and silliest tradition!
Sing with Broadway stars at our biggest fundraiser of the year! Carpe PM gives campers the opportunity to participate in a full camp group number alongside each year's guest artist.
Campers will have the opportunity to perform solos, group numbers, and showcase their many talents in what has become CDT’s most beloved night of the year! All campers are eligible to participate and our Counselors-in-Training lead rehearsals for the show during camp hours.
All are welcome at our evening master class series, ROOTS. The 2nd week of Camp, ROOTS brings professionals across many different disciplines to teach our campers in intimate free-to-attend sessions. Click here to learn more.
