Please reach us at info@carpediemtheater.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We offer two audition options: one for those seeking to have a singing/speaking role in our shows, and one for those who want to be in the ensemble.
For those who would like a role:
We will let you know ahead of time what songs from the shows you can choose to sing, and will provide the music so you can practice. Upon entering the auditorium, you will be asked to sign in. Once we call your name, you will make your way to the stage and sing the song. After you sing, we may ask you to read a few scenes with the other actors that are auditioning. You might even have to learn some choreography, so be ready to dance!
For those who would like to be in the ensemble:
On audition days, we will host an Ensemble Meeting where you can meet our counselors and hear more about the program and our plans for the summer. You will not audition (sing or read lines); instead we will play a couple of theater games and do a little movement together so we can get to know one another better.
A day or two after you audition, we will email the cast list out to everyone.
A script read-through will be held the week of auditions. Scripts will be passed out at this time - if you can’t attend the read-through, we will arrange another time for you to get your script from us. After the read-through, actors should spend the following month becoming familiar with all of the songs from their show and memorizing their lines.
It is expected all actors have memorized all songs and lines (the term we use is “off book”) by the beginning of the rehearsals in July.

Carpe Diem students can apply to become counselors upon entering 10th grade. Students must participate in at least one summer as a camper to be eligible to apply to become a counselor. If students are selected to become counselors, they will commit to being our staff for three summers, first as Counselors in Training, then Junior Counselors, then Senior Counselors.
